Celebrity Big Brother's Bruce Jones is lowest-paid housemate ever

Celebrity Big Brother's Bruce Jones is lowest-paid housemate ever, Bruce Jones was paid just £15,000 to go into the Celebrity Big Brother house – while his former on-screen wife is getting TEN times more.

Ex Corrie star Bruce, known to millions of soap fans as Les Battersby, is thought to be the lowest-paid celeb housemate ever.

But Vicky Entwhistle, who played battle-axe Janice, is among the highest earners on £150,000.

Bruce, 60, turned down £55,000 to appear on the Channel 5 show last year.

But he agreed to be reunited with Vicky, 44, after recent hard times which have seen him become a £120-a-week mechanic.

The Battersbys got the loudest cheers of the night when they entered the house on Thursday with fans excited by the prospect of fireworks between the pair.

And they were soon bickering like an old married couple again when told to spend the night together in a four-poster bed in a private “garden” bedroom.

Bruce was axed from Coronation Street in 2007 after he got drunk with an undercover reporter, allegedly insulted fans and discussed future plots.

He has since told of his battle with booze and depression and how he tried to kill himself and wife Sandra in a car crash.

The incident led to a 10-month suspended jail sentence in 2010.

After a series of money troubles he took on a job at a garage in Abergele, near his home in Towyn, North Wales.

Big Brother stars tend to earn between £50,000 and £80,000.

Even dancer Andrew Stone – a relative unknown – got £100,000 for last year’s run.

A spokesman for the show said they don’t comment on contracts.
