Surgery later for Jadeveon Clowney, South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney will get the chance to improve on a modest start despite a lingering foot injury that has been determined to need surgery.
Clowney said after South Carolina's 35-25 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday he plans to undergo a procedure on the right foot for bone spurs that have grown more acute since late last season but that have nagged him since high school.
But he won't miss any games because of it.
"I'm going to get it cleaned out after the season's over with," Clowney told the Spartanburg (S.C.) Herald Journal.
Clowney said the foot "builds up pain" but only troubles him when he's playing.
"The more I keep going the more it bothers me," Clowney told the newspaper.
After a 2012 in which he recorded 23.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks, Clowney has been limited to 10 total tackles and two sacks through three games this season, though he forced a fumble in the third quarter of Saturday's win.
"It's painful," Clowney said of the foot. "I'm out here playing on it though. I'm just trying to give it everything I've got."
The 13th-ranked Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1 SEC) are off next weekend before returning against UCF.
