A-Rod skips Jeter ceremony, goes on date with J-Lo instead, Alex Rodriguez was in New York on Sunday night, but not at Yankee Stadium with several of his former teammates honoring Derek Jeter. Instead, A-Rod was on a dinner date with girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, according to TMZ Sports.
TMZ Sports reports that Rodriguez was invited to the event.
Jeter and Rodriguez were teammates for 10 seasons, but their relationship remains unclear.
Rodriguez did tweet Jeter well wishes ahead of Sunday's ceremony:
Thank you for the pleasure of playing alongside you for so many years. Congrats, Captain. #JeterNight
There was also this video message:
“Derek, congrats to you and your family. What a tremendous honor, what a great career — long overdue. Probably should have done this after your second or third championship. As everybody knows, Yankee Stadium is the house that Derek Jeter built. A tremendous honor and I hope you enjoy your day.”
Jeter is the 21st Yankees player to have his number retired.
