SeaWorld sees plunge in revenue and visitors, SeaWorld Entertainment shares plunged Tuesday morning after the theme park operator reported a steep drop in revenue and visitors during the first quarter. .
For the three-month period ending March 31, revenues dipped to $186.4 million vs. the $220.2 million it brought in during that same period a year ago.
Attendance was also down 14.9% at the start of the year, to 2.8 million as compared to the 3.3 million park visitors during that quarter in 2016.
The company attributed the dip in visitors to the Easter holiday occurring during the following quarter, affecting the timing of spring break. It also said that attendance may have lagged because there was no key attraction at SeaWorld San Diego , which a new experience dubbed the Orca Encounter is being developed with an opening scheduled for this summer.
