McCain was appearing on The View to mark the birthday of his daughter Meghan, who is also a new co-host on the show, when the hosts brought up Trump's threats against the senator.
"Are you scared?" co-host Sunny Hostin asked, to which McCain - and the rest of the hosts and studio audience - burst into laughter.

"I mentioned that I had faced greater challenges," McCain eventually replied.
Trump made the comments about McCain after the Republican senator made a speech that attacked "half-baked, spurious nationalism" in the U.S.
"At some point, I fight back and it won't be pretty," Trump said last week.
McCain replied at the time that he had "faced far greater challenges than this."
Trump has repeatedly attacked the senator after McCain voted against a GOP bill to repeal ObamaCare.
