CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) – A rabid fox has been found in another Eastern Carolina county.
Carteret County health officials say the fox turned up in the vicinity of Golden Farm Road, east of Beaufort, on Thursday.
The fox was euthanized and its remains were sent to a state lab where test results came back positive for rabies on Friday.
It’s the first none rabies case in Carteret County this year.
The health department says anyone who sees wildlife showing abnormal behavior should contact Carteret County Animal Control immediately at 252-728-8585.
So far this year, there have been rabid animals found in several Eastern Carolina counties, including Beaufort, Lenoir, Martin, Onslow, and Pamlico counties.
