Dozens injured after a Greyhound bus plunges off the road in Ohio, At least 35 people were injured after a Greyhound bus crashed in southwest Ohio early Saturday morning, officials said. No one was killed.
The bus was carrying 51 passengers an overnight trip from Cincinnati to Detroit when it left the road on Interstate 75 in Butler County at 3:48 a.m., Jeff Galloway, the director of Butler County Emergency Management, told the Los Angeles Times.
The bus went down an embankment along the interstate, struck a tree and then rolled over out into a cornfield.
"The whole front of the bus -- basically where it made contact with the tree -- it was destroyed," Galloway said.
Six people were taken by helicopter to trauma centers, with ambulances ferrying 29 other victims to area hospitals, Galloway said.
Four people -- one of them the driver -- had to be rescued from the bus by firefighters.
As of Saturday afternoon, six passengers and the driver remained hospitalized, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Greyhound spokeswoman Alexandra Pedrini said the driver had worked for Greyhound for 15 years and had "a very clean driving record."
She said the driver had only been on duty for an hour before the accident occurred and had performed a pre-trip inspection of the bus before it left Cincinnati at 2:55 a.m.
The accident is under investigation by state and county law enforcement officials, Pedrini said.
