The 20-year-old reality star’s new boyfriend is Ben Seewald, 18, whom she met at church.
“We are so excited for Ben and Jessa,” Jim Bob told People. “They are enjoying getting to know each other and are recommending sermons to one another.”
But in order to win over the young Duggar’s heart, young men pursuing her had to go through her papa first, and Seewald seems to have passed the test.
“He’s the first one she has shown interest in that has a spiritual focus and legitimate calling about ministry work,” the 48-year-old patriarch said of the young man who owns the Affordable Windshield Repair in Hot Springs, Ark., and works at the Diamante Country Club.
“When a guy is pursuing your daughter, you want to check him out and see if there are any red flags,” he added. “With Ben, there hasn’t been. He is very sharp. It appears like a match made in heaven.”
Due to the Duggar’s strong Christian beliefs, they strongly feel a couple should wait until the wedding to engage in even a kiss. After all, Jessa and her beau are currently in a courtship, which the Duggar’s define as a couple who are deciding whether marriage is right for them with the support of both sides of their families.
“Dad allowed them to do a side hug when they were officially courting,” the matriarch of the Duggar family, Michelle, revealed. “They agreed that would be the only contact they should have.”
In addition to laying down the rules regarding how close the two young people can get, the Duggar parents are also kept abreast of their conversations via text.
“It has been interesting to watch their interactions because they share very similar beliefs,” Michelle, 47, added.
“All of our family is involved in this relationship,” Jim Bob said. “It is an exciting time.”
Jessa’s journey to love will be documented on the family’s TLC reality series, “19 Kids & Counting,” which premieres Tuesday.
