Aaron Hernandez’s Fiancée Says She Doesn’t Believe He Was Involved In Odin Lloyd’s Murder, When Aaron Hernandez was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2010, he was on the road to becoming a football icon. He had a $40 million contract, a mansion outside of Boston and a beautiful girlfriend.
But his days in the NFL – and life as he knew it — ended just three years later when he was arrested and accused of three murders. In 2013, he was convicted of murdering Odin Lloyd and sentenced to life in prison.
By his side since they were kids, Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, opens up to Dr. Phil in an exclusive interview about what life was like with her high school sweetheart.
“There’s been so much said that there was a parallel lifestyle; that on the one hand, his teammates talk about him as being such a team player, and so supportive and speak of him as being a very dedicated athlete that was such a part of such an iconic franchise,” Dr. Phil says to Jenkins-Hernandez. “But then, yet, he had relationships with those that were less than desirable. What do you say about that?”
“He didn’t have the best choice in some friends but that didn’t make him a bad person,” Jenkins-Hernandez tells Dr. Phil in the video above from Monday’s show.
“Was he a gang member?” Dr. Phil asks.
“Not to my knowledge,” Jenkins-Hernandez replies.
“Was your relationship such that you had the right to say what you thought?” Dr. Phil asks. “Could you step up and say, ‘I don’t think you ought to be hanging with those people and I don’t think you ought to be bringing them into our home’?”
“I pick and choose my battles, and there’s some things that I pressed on and some things I didn’t,” she says.

Hernandez was found dead in his jail cell on April 19, 2017, from an alleged suicide, days after he was acquitted of two murders from 2012 and was appealing the Lloyd conviction.
