Miley Cyrus says breakup with Liam Hemsworth allowed her to 'grow up'
Miley Cyrus says breakup with Liam Hemsworth allowed her to 'grow up', Miley Cyrus is currently happily engaged to Liam Hemsworth, but the two did once hit a rocky patch — not that Miley has anything bad to say about it.
The "Malibu" singer dropped by SiriusXM's "Hits 1 in Hollywood" and offered up a mature batch of advice to her younger self on how to deal with heartbreak.
"I know that everything is happening for the right reason and I knew that when we weren't together the first time," she explained of embracing fate. "I didn't know if that was the end of it, or if we'd be back together again, but knew that wherever I was going, I was on the right path."Liam and Miley in 2016
Cyrus, 24, and her "Hunger Games" actor beau first met on the set of their 2010 film "The Last Song," and following a spat of breakups and makeups, were engaged in 2012. They called it off in 2013 and spent the next several years apart, only to reconcile, diamond ring and all, in 2016.
"I think people that break up and get back together, I think that's awesome because you know it's true, but also you get time to be yourself. You get time to grow up," she said.
Thanks to that time spent apart, Cyrus says her relationship with Hemsworth is even stronger.
"I think if you're growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being," she said. "I'm really solid, and he gets to be really solid, and together we get to be two really grounded people. It's not a half and a half making a whole."
The "Wrecking Ball" singer is currently gearing up for a launch back into the spotlight, and is set to release her sixth album later this year. Her new Liam-inspired single, "Malibu," debuted last week.
