The internet really wants Taylor Swift to be inside this suitcase, Taylor Swift has proven that she can shake it off and move in some pretty impressive ways. But is she really so limber that she’d fit into a suitcase?
Well, whether or not Taylor Swift was inside a suitcase was the question plaguing the internet on July 17th, 2017. Thankfully for her (but not-so thankfully for fans of bizarre pop culture moments), we already know that this was all just a misunderstanding and the singer was NOT in the box, but it just goes to show how swiftly a rumor about Swift can spread on the internet.
Here’s how it all started. The Irish radio station Spin1083 noted how the photo-sharing site Splash had captioned a paparazzi photo of two men carrying a suitcase with the following statement:

“Taylor Swift being transported in a huge suitcase from her Tribeca apartment into her truck.”
That’s right, Splash had evidentally written that Swift was IN the suitcase.
It captured the imagination of the internet with most people wanting her to be inside the suitcase…cause otherwise, what was the point?
One person noted it could even be Swift’s sneaky way of avoiding the paparazzi. After all, Swift traveling by box has been a theory circulating the internet since May.
And someone noted that this pop culture moment will define 2017.
But before the day was through, the truth was out there — a representative from Splash told SPIN about the caption that stated Swift was in the suitcase: “We’re having to actually retract that.”
And as quickly as it began, it was over. Swift was not in the suitcase no matter how hard consumers of pop culture willed it to be true.
But there’s at least one thing we can still all wonder together: If it wasn’t Swift, what’s in the box?
